5 Using the Serial Port
The Communications Module has a serial port which can be used to perform the following operations:
Execute Linux commands — for example, to change directory "cd", check memory usage "cat

/proc/meminfo", process statistics "ps".

View and edit the flash contents.

Configure mandatory parameters of the WEBS-PA-1.
To use the WEBS-PA-1 using a serial port:

Connect a null modem serial cable from the serial port on the Communications Module to an
available COM port on the PC.

Launch the preferred console/terminal application (e.g., HyperTerminal or TeraTerm) on the PC
and specify the following:
Baud rate:
115200 bps
Data bits:
8
Parity:
None
Stop bits:
1
Flow control:
None

Change the current working directory to /flash using the command cd /flash

Create or Edit the configuration file (configdbfile.txt) using the vi editor.

Run the configuration application to update the Communications Module configuration as follows
configApp <username> <password> <name of configuration file>
For example: configApp admin admin@123 configdbfile.txt
The configuration file requires a name=value pair separated by a new line. A "+" character is treated
as comment in the file.
An example of configuration file is shown in Appendix C: Sample Serial Configuration File
