user must be careful to avoid multiple earth grounds in the circuit. Multiple earth
grounds may provide circuit paths that induce transient currents in the cable
conductors affecting the photodiode current and laser diode forward voltage
measurements.
The 9-pin 9W4 connector marked CURRENT SOURCE on the back panel is used
to connect your laser diode to the LDX-32420. There are connections provided for
laser cathode and anode, photodiode cathode and anode, laser forward voltage
and chassis ground. The pinout diagram for this connector is shown in Figure 2.1.

Laser Diode Connections

The laser current output of the LDX-32420 is isolated from chassis ground,
allowing either the laser anode or cathode to be grounded at the user's option.
Two pairs of connections (A1, A2) for laser anode and (A3, A4) for laser cathode
are provided through the 9W4 connector. These conductors are internally shorted
so that only one pin from each pair is needed for driving the laser diode. With the
ILX CC-320 and CC-325 interconnect cables, the laser conductors are un-
shielded stranded 8 AWG wire.

Note: With high currents, connections to the cable end or the laser should be secure and
tight. Avoid point contacts, maximizing surface area for connections is advisable. Increased
resistance due to poor connections will cause high voltage drops and I
could be dangerous or damaging to improperly sized conductors and/or the conductor
insulation.
