522 Wheels and tyres
1 Tyre-change tool kit
The tyre-change tool kit 1 includes:
jack
R
wheel wrench
R
wheel studs
R
extension attachment for wheel bolts, if nec‐
R
essary (depending on vehicle version)
centring pin
R
folding chock
R
ratchet ring spanner
R
Setting up the folding chock
Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements:
The required tyre-change tool kit is available.
R
If your vehicle is not equipped with the tyre-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
The vehicle is not on a slope.
R
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
R
ground.
Apply the electric parking brake manually.

Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
#
position.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
#
shift into position j.
Vehicles with level control system: set the
#
normal vehicle level ( page 249).

Switch off the engine.

Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under
#
the front and rear of the wheel that is diago‐
nally opposite the wheel you wish to change.
Remove the hub caps if necessary .

Raise the vehicle ( page 522).

Raising the vehicle when changing a wheel
Requirements:
There are no persons in the vehicle.
