Glossary
HBA:
Abbreviation of Host Bus Adapter.
HBA, which is also called a host
interface card, is a circuit board
installed on the host system to handle
requests between the host system and
library.
Home window:
Window on the operator panel display
for displaying status information for the
drive and library.
Host:
One or more computers that generate
library data and communicate with the
library
Hub:
Device with a system for
interconnecting multiple ports like a
loop using the physical "star"
configuration to implement FC_AL
HVDS:
Abbreviation of High Voltage
Differential SCSI
Identity: One of the front panel display options
that displays the serial number of the
library
IP:
Abbreviation of Internet Protocol
Jumper cable:
Cable to connect the library control
card to a drive. This cable is also called
a daisy chain cable.
Latch stopper:
Spring-loaded device that extends from
the mount rail. The latch stopper
prevents the library from being
completely pulled out of the rack,
though it can be pulled out by about
2/3.
LED:
This is a light emitting diode and is also
called simply a lamp. A LED is
mounted on each assembly of the
library such as the drive module, power
unit, library card, and internal
assembly. The LED indicates the status
information for each assembly.
Library: Data storage system that stores
electronic data in tape cartridges.
Depending on the model, up to six drive
modules are used in the library.

Low Voltage Differential SCSI

MAC address:
Abbreviation of Media Access Control
address. This is a unique hardware
address for identifying each node in a
network.
Magazine:Portable container with a slot that can
accommodate five tape cartridges. A
magazine can be attached to CAS or
detached from it.
Move:
One library operation such as loading a
tape into the drive or unloading a tape
from the drive
Nesting: Menu system of the library introduced
to control the library stepwise
Odometer:One of the front panel display options
that displays the operating time and
switching of the system
Source:
Fiber channel term that indicates the
source device of communication
Port:
Hardware identity within a node
through which data communication is
conducted
Power (standby) switch:
Certain low voltage remaining after
turning off the library
RMC/Remote management card:
Circuit card used to access the library
from a computer that is located away
from the library
SCSI:
Abbreviation of Small Computer
Systems Interface. This is a bus for
transferring data between the host
system and library.
SCSI ID: Electronic identification number of
each SCSI device in the library. As the
library SCSI device, the drive and the
library interface controller card are
available.
