Install Spark Plugs
1. Use new Champion
66 132 01-S) or equivalent spark plugs.
2. Set the spark plug gap to 0.76 mm (0.030 in.).
3. Install the plugs and torque to 24.4-29.8 N·m
(18-22 ft. lb.). See Figure 11-75.

Install Starter Assembly
1. Mount the starter to the adapter plate using the
two hex flange screws.
NOTE: The stator leads and rectifier-regulator
plug must be above the starter.
2. Make sure the starter is square to the flywheel,
and torque the two hex flange screws to 15.3 N·m
(135 in. lb.). See Figure 11-76.

3. Attach the leads to the appropriate starter
solenoid terminals. See Figure 11-77.

4. To avoid damage or breakage, do not over-
tighten the hex flange nut when attaching the
positive battery cable. Torque the nut to 6-9 N·m
(53-79 in. lb.).
