The MPC
Configuring an MPC on a router provides router−initiated and router−terminated shortcuts for non−NBMA
networks. The MPC functionality involves the following:
Data−plane and control−plane VCC management
Ingress/egress cache management
MPOA frame processing
MPOA protocol and flow detection
An MPC identifies packets sent to an MPOA−capable router over the NBMA network and establishes a
shortcut VCC to the egress MPC, if possible.

Configuring the Hostname

You can change the default prompt of Switch> and distinguish a switch from other devices in your network
by naming it. The following code lists the command to change the prompt name to CoriolisLS1010> (this
setting has only local significance on the switch):
Switch> enable
Switch# configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)# hostname CoriolisLS1010
CoriolisLS1010(config)#

Configuring an Enable Password

In order to keep unauthorized people from making configuration changes on your switch, you should use the
enable password command followed by the new password. Let's take a look at an example:
1.
Use the enable command to enter Privileged EXEC mode:
CoriolisLS1010> enable
2.
Use the config terminal command to enter Global Configuration mode:
CoriolisLS1010# config terminal
3.
Use the enable password command followed by a password to configure the enable password:
CoriolisLS1010(config)# enable password book1

Configuring the Processor Card Ethernet Interface

You must configure the Ethernet port on the processor card in order to allow Telnet access to the switch CLI.
To configure the Ethernet interface, you must have local administrative access. Connect a PC or workstation
to the console port on the processor card and follow these steps:
1.
Use the enable command to enter Privileged EXEC mode:
189
