4.3.2. Changing DIP Switch Settings

At the front edge of the main module inside the unit there is an 8 position DIP switch, which is used to
select various operational and diagnostic functions. The ON position is down or closest to the PCB. Most
users will have no need to alter the factory switch settings. Section 4.3.2.1 describes the assigned DIP
switch functions.

To gain access to the DIP switches you will have to remove the top cover.
Before removing the top cover of the unit make sure that both power cords are
disconnected from the mains.

4.3.2.1. Enabling the Time Code Broadcast Data Output.

When you set DIP switch 4 and 8 to the closed (down) position the HD9010TM COM 1 port will output a
packed BCD serial data stream output with the following specifications.
Baud Rate:
Selectable using the COM 1 BAUD RATE control
Data Format: 8 bits, even parity, 1 stop bit
Once per field (once per frame for 720p video formats) the HD9010TM will send the time and user bits
most recently generated by the primary ATC generator in the following formatted packed BCD message:
Each message starts with the STX character and ends with a checksum. The message blocks are
structured as follows:
STX
STX
Start of message character (02 hex)
BYTE COUNT
Count of response message not including STX, BYTE COUNT or CHECKSUM.
MESSAGE
9 byte message consisting of the time and user bits data from the generator.
CHECKSUM
The two's complement of the one byte sum of the MESSAGE and the BYTE
COUNT.
