CONFIGURING THE GENERAL PURPOSE INPUTS AND OUTPUTS

A 9 pin D connector located on the rear panel labelled PARALLEL I/O provides control inputs for
remote control of some of the model HD9010TM functions.
configured as open collector outputs that can be assigned to a variety of functions. The pin out of the D
connector when the HD9010TM is not in the time rctl mode is shown in Table 2-1.
The GPI front panel display (accessible by pressing the DISPLAY button one or more times) will show
the status of the GPI inputs. The GPI status display (GPI: 11111111 ) is a group of 8 digits
representing the GPI inputs (GPI 8 on the left, GPI 1 on the right) When the digit is showing a 0, the
GPI input is low. When the digit is showing a 1 the input is high.
There are eight GPI inputs on Rev 2 units and three GPI inputs on Rev 1 units. Section 3.8.2
describes the operation of the GPI functions when the HD9010TM is not operating the time rctl mode.
When the HD9010TM is operating in the time rctl mode, the functions of these PARALLEL I/O port
GPI: 11111111 pins are reassigned to provide a method of inputting Remote Control contact closure
information for encoding into the user bits. The pin out of the D connector when the HD9010TM is in
the time rctl mode is shown in Table 2-2. Section 3.8.1 describes the operation of the time rctl mode.

3.8.1. GPI Remote Control Mode

On Revision 2 versions, when the GEN MODE is set to time rctl the HD9010TM allows the user to
encode remote control contact closure information in the RP188 ATC user bits. This feature is not
supported in Revision 1 units. This feature allows the user to use the six parallel remote control inputs
to set one of the six remote control user bit patterns. At the decoder end the 7721DD4-HD+GPI ATC
GPI Decoder module decodes the remote control user bits and outputs them on six open collector
outputs. When the HD9010TM is operated in this mode the normal functions of all the parallel remote
control inputs are disabled.
