The VCG SETUP menu is used to configure the character style, and whether frames, fields and
symbols should be displayed in the character generator. The following descriptions appear in the order
they appear on the menu. The chart below shows the items available in the VCG SETUP menu.
Sections 3.6.1 to 3.6.5 give detailed information about each of the sub-menus.

The CHAR STYLE menu item is used to select whether the
background mask will be used and whether the characters will be white
or black. The on screen format menus are always white characters
keyed into a black background mask.
Select white/none to disable the background and key white characters
directly into the picture.
Select white/black to key white characters on a black background mask
into the picture.
Select white/20%, white/50% or white/80% to key white characters on
a transparent grey background mask into the picture.
Select black/none to disable the background and key black characters
directly into the picture.
Select black/white to key black characters on a white background mask
into the picture.
Select black/20%, black/50% or black/80% to key black characters on
a transparent white background mask into the picture.
The VCG FRAMES menu item is used to select whether the frames will
be shown when the time is displayed in the character inserter.
Select Vcg frames off to hide the time code frames.
Select Vcg frames on to show the time code frames.
