TIP
• Install the timing chain tensioner gasket so that
the tab "a" on the gasket is protruding in the di-
rection shown in the illustration.
• The mark "b" on the timing chain tensioner
should face in the direction shown in the illus-
tration.
• Apply Yamaha bond No. 1215 to the threads of
the timing chain tensioner bolts.

10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 7.4 lb·ft)

d. Install the spring, washer, and timing chain
tensioner cap bolt.

24 N·m (2.4 kgf·m, 18 lb·ft)
5. Turn:
• Crankshaft
(several turns clockwise)
6. Check:
• Mark "a"
Make sure that the mark "a" on the generator
rotor is positioned between the slots "b" in the
generator rotor cover.
• "I" mark "c"
Make sure the "I" mark "c" on the camshaft
sprocket is aligned with the match mark "d"
on the cylinder head.
Out of alignment → Correct.
Refer to the installation steps above.
7. Tighten:

• Camshaft sprocket bolts "1"
TIP
Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts with the
camshaft sprocket stopper "2".
8. Measure:
• Valve clearance
Out of specification → Adjust.
Refer to "ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEAR-
ANCE" on page 3-5.
9. Install:
• Bracket 1 "1"
