Control Room

42
Regarding the system to which the L3 controller is to be introduced, the following
paragraphs describe the requirements of control room in which equipment is to be
installed, environmental conditions, and power supply equipment. Carefully study these
requirements before making a plan.
Floor of control room
• Floor strength: The floor must be strong enough to support the mass and size of the
equipment to be installed.
• Floor construction: To provide for cable installation, the floor should be of wiring pit type
with grooves formed in the surface, or raised (free-access) type. If the floor surface is not
processed, be sure to use cover to protect exposed cable.
• Prevention of water immersion and dust: For protection of the cables and equipment
installed on the floor, prevent water immersion of the floor, and take appropriate measures
to prevent dust from under the floor.
• Ensure that static electricity of higher than 1 kV does not occur in the control room. For the
floor surface, use material that underwent antistatic treatment (surface insulation
Ω). Application of antistatic agent to the floor may also be effective

depending on the case.
Windows and doors of control room
• If dust, salty wind or corrosive gas is anticipated to enter the control room, seal all windows,
and take appropriate measures to prevent dust from entering the room through doors.
• Ensure that the equipment is not exposed to direct sunlight.
• Prepare an entrance large enough to carry the equipment into the control room.
Control room size
• The control room must be large enough to provide operation and maintenance access.
• On the console containing the L3 controller, a fan is to be mounted to blow air to the sides
and top of the controller. Therefore, sufficient service space (500 mm or more as standard)
is necessary on the top, front and rear of the console.
Air-conditioning equipment
• Ambient temperature has a large influence on the equipment reliability and operators'
comfortableness, and may increase measurement errors in some cases. To obtain a
favorable installation environment, it is recommended to install air-conditioning equipment.
• If the L3 controller is to be installed in an unmanned control room at job site, take care of
the temperature and humidity of the control room. Install an air-discharging type ventilation
fan if necessary.
Service outlets
• In the case where an incoming unit or an incoming/distributing unit is installed, service
outlets for maintenance and a tool (personal computer) may be provided. In such a case
as well, separately prepare general outlets for use by a measuring instrument and a
vacuum cleaners.
Fire extinguishers
• Install extinguishers for electrically caused fire (carbon dioxide extinguishers) or halogen
extinguishers. Avoid installing water, foam or powder extinguishers.
