Chapter 2 Preparations

Overview of Installation and Removal

Install/remove components by using the following procedure.
Installing or removing internal parts such as hard disk drives, fan units, and power units is done while the rack is
removed from the server. It is recommended that several people work together to remove the rack.
Be sure to observe the following precautions to use the server safely. Failure to observe the
precautions may cause burns, injury, and property damage. For details, see Safety Precautions
and Regulatory Notices.
1.
If the server is mounted on a rack, use the UID switch to identify the target server.
See Chapter 2 (1.3 Identifying Servers (UID Switch)).

Remove Front Bezel.
See Chapter 2 (1.4 Front Bezel).
3.
Turn off the server.
See Chapter 3 (6. Turning Off the Server).
4.
Disconnect the power cord from the outlet and the server.
5.
If only installing a disk drive, proceed to step 12. If only installing a power supply unit, proceed to step
13. When installing or removing other internal options, remove from the rack from the maindevice,
and place it on a sturdy, flat desk.
6.
Remove Top Cover.
See Chapter 2 (1.5 Top Cover).

Do not drop the server
Do not leave the server pulled out of the rack
Replace the cover after installing components
Beware of high temperatures
Do not get your fingers caught when installing components
Important
After disconnecting the power cord from the server, wait for at least 30
seconds before installing/removing optional devices.
Make sure AC POWER LED on power supply unit is unlit.
Important
Do not leave the server being pulled out from the rack.
