PowerScript supports industry standard protocols—that is, the language computers use to
talk to one another. If you currently use a computer to access the Internet or some other
network (such as Ethernet), you might already have everything you need to create a suc-
cessful connection between PowerScript and the computer. If you do not already have
such a computer connection, we recommend you consult with someone who can pro-
vide you with the assistance you need.
By supporting industry standard protocols, PowerScript makes it possible to use off-the-
shelf tools and existing networks. PowerScript supports these computer platforms:

Many modern computing systems use a client/server architecture in which one system,
the client , has control of the environment. The other system, the server , can make files
available to the client and can receive files. Servers cannot originate file transfers.
A system can consist of many different clients and servers. Each client (with the proper
security clearance) can access any server. PowerScript always acts in the role of an FTP
server in the context discussed in this chapter .
PowerScript supports hardware protocols for RS-232 and Ethernet (with an optional PC
Card Ethernet adapter). PowerScript supports TCP/IP, FTP, and PPP protocols—where it
acts in the role of a server .

I'm the CLIENT.
I initiate all file

Yep...We're

same language.
I'm the SERVER.
I won't do anything

instructions.
PowerScript Computer Connections
In a computer network or on-
line environment, two or more
computers must use the same
protocol (or, language) to
successfully communicate.
In a client/server environment, the
client computer initiates all file
transfers and other operations. The
server computer exists only to serve
the needs of the client.
