2. Description of Equipment

2.1 Intended purpose

The SOMNOvent ST is a bilevel appliance
for the non-invasive ventilation of patients suf-
fering ventilatory insufficiency. This covers:
• obstructive ventilation disorders e.g.
OSAS, COPD;
• disorders of the respiratory mechanism,
e.g. scoliosis;
• neuromuscular disorders;
• patients who have a degree of central
respiratory regulation disorder.
Important!
• The SOMNOvent ST may be used only
on patients in whom there is evidence of
independent respiratory drive. The
SOMNOvent ST is not suitable as a life-
support system;
• The SOMNOvent ST is designed for use
on adults;
• The settings on the SOMNOvent ST must
be adapted to the patient on an individ-
ual basis by a doctor or in a sleep labo-
ratory;
• Using the accessories (respiratory air hu-
midifier, bacterial filter and oxygen con-
nection valve) may alter the
characteristics of the appliance. Adding
these accessories subsequently can in-
volve resetting the parameters of the ap-
pliance. Consult your doctor if
appropriate.
