Configuring the Advanced System
Management hardware without
Systems Management software
ServerGuide includes a configuration utility that enables
you to configure the Advanced System Management
(ASM) PCI Adapter or Processor without using the
Systems Management software. With the configuration
utility, you can:
Set Alert Settings to enable or disable alert functions
Configure Dial In/Out settings
Set General Settings, including the Name and
Number that identifies this Advanced System
Management hardware, the date and time reported by
the ASM hardware, assorted time-out values, and
schedule a time for the system to be turned on
Configure Modem settings
Configure Network settings
You can start the configuration utility in one of two ways:
Access the server system partition and start the
Advanced System Management Configuration Utility.
If you used ServerGuide to configure the xSeries
server and creation of a system partition is supported
on the server (see the ServerGuide information that is
shipped with the server for more information), the
Advanced System Management Configuration Utility
may be available from the the system partition menu.
See the ServerGuide CD for more information.
Start the system using an Advanced System
Management Configuration Utility diskette.
If the system does not have a system partition, you
can use ServerGuide CD to create an Advanced
System Management Configuration Utility diskette.
After you create this diskette, place it in the server
diskette drive and then restart the server. The
configuration utility starts automatically.
To use the configuration utility:
1. Insert the Advanced System Management CD-ROM
into the CD-ROM drive and restart the system. If the
system does not start from the CD-ROM, use
POST/BIOS setup to configure the CD-ROM drive as
a boot device. Please refer to the Server Library that
was included with the system for additional
information.
2. After the system starts, the main option menu will
open. The main menu contains the following
selections:
