AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.1 Print Process Overview This printer is a full-color laser printer that takes advantage of the principle of electrophotographic recording. This printer uses a tandem-type engine that equips exclusive drums and developer units for each yellow, magenta, cyan, and black (abbreviated to Y, M, C, and K), and prints images in full color by laying images of four colors on paper that is transferred on the transfer belt.

  • Page 33: Technical Explanation Of Print Process

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3 Technical Explanation of Print Process 2.3.1 Charging In charging process, BCR (Bias Charge Roll) applies a uniform negative potential to the drum which rotates at a fixed speed. This process is performed simultaneously for each of the yellow, magenta, cyan and black colors.
  • Page 34: Exposure

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.2 Exposure A laser beam is irradiated according to the print data (image data) sent from the printer controller. The laser beam is output only when a pixel data (minute dot In exposure process, a laser beam is applied to the negatively charged surface of the composing the print data) exists.
  • Page 35: Development

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.3 Development In development process, toner is electrically applied to the invisible electrostatic latent image on the drum to form a visible image on it. This process is performed simultaneously for each of the yellow, magenta, cyan and black colors.
  • Page 36: Transfer (Drum Æ Paper)

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.4 Transfer (Drum → Paper) In transfer process, the toner images formed on the drums are transferred to a paper. Toner image is transferred in the order Y, M, C, and K. BTR (Bias Transfer Roll) is a conductive roll and is supplied high positive voltage from the HVPS.
  • Page 37: Cleaning (Toner Cartridge)

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.5 Cleaning (Toner Cartridge) In cleaning (toner cartridge) process, remaining toner on the Drum and the BCR as well as electrical charge on the Drum are removed. Drum cleaning Cleaning blade contacts the Drum surface and scrape off remaining toner.
  • Page 38: Discharging

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.6 Discharging In discharging process, the charge on the paper is neutralized/removed by the Detack Saw. Detack Saw Detack Saw neutralizes/removes electrical charge of the paper so that toner transferred on the paper will not scatter over the surrounding metal parts.
  • Page 39: Fusing

AcuLaser C2800/C2800D/C3800/C3800D Revision C 2.3.7 Fusing 2.3.8 Cleaning (Transfer Belt) In fusing process, toner is fixed on paper by applying heat and pressure. In cleaning (transfer belt) process, remaining toner on the Transfer Belt is removed. As a complete toner image clings to a paper only by the electrostatic force, one light touch can remove the image easily.
