ther information, please refer to the
server documentation.
Note: In order to be able to access
the OpenCom 100 under the same IP
address after a restart, you must
specify this IP address permanently
on a DHCP server. On a DHCP server it
is possible to link the MAC address of
a network card with a specific IP ad-
dress. You will find details in the
server documentation.
Internet Access
You can also use the OpenCom 100
as an Internet access server in a LAN
with an IP-capable server. In order to
do this, you must enter the Open-
Com 100 IP address on the server as
the default gateway. In addition, you
must edit the internal DNS server
configuration so that the resolution
of external DNS names is forwarded
to the OpenCom 100.
In this example, the Internet connec-
tion is established from a worksta-
tion via the server, which in turn re-
quests Internet access from the
OpenCom 100.
There are two different ways of con-
figuring the internal DNS server suit-
ably. You can enter the OpenCom
100 IP address as a DNS Forwarder. If
you require access to extended DNS
information, you can also configure
the DNS server for a recursive DNS
request without the DNS Forwarder.

OpenCom 100 as DNS Server in a LAN
with an IP Server
RAS Access
In a LAN with an IP-capable server
you can also enable external com-
puters to dial in via the OpenCom
100. In order to do this, you should
co-ordinate with the Network Ad-
ministrator the IP address space
which can be assigned to an external
computer dialling in, and enter it in
the Configurator, NET Configura-
tion: Easy Access menu, under PPP
Addresses.
The user account administered by
the OpenCom 100, with which dial-
ling in is permitted, only allows the
establishment of connections using
TCP/IP. If you want to allow file or
printer access in the network, you
must set up a suitable user account
on the server for the network login.
