10 REAR WHEELS/FRONT CASTERS
10 Rear Wheels/Front Casters
WARNING
The seat height, seat depth, back angle, seating system, size/position of the rear wheels, size/position of the front casters, as
well as the user condition directly relate to the stability of the wheelchair. Any change to one or any combination of the
nine may cause the wheelchair to decrease in stability. These adjustments MUST be performed by a qualified technician.
After any adjustments, repair or service and before use, make sure all attaching hardware is tightened securely - otherwise
injury or damage may occur.
10.1 Removing/Installing Rear Wheels
WARNING
If changing the size of the rear wheel or the seat-to-floor height, this procedure must be performed by a qualified technician.
Permanent Axles
For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 1 on page 85.
Removing
1.
Remove the permanent axle (A), spacer (B), washer (C) and locknut (D) that secure rear wheel (E) to the axle bracket (F).
2.
Remove existing rear wheel from the wheelchair.
3.
Install new/existing rear wheel onto wheelchair. Refer to Removing/Installing Rear Wheels on page 84.
Installing
1.
Install permanent axle (A) through the rear wheel (E), spacer (B), axle bracket (F), washer (C) and locknut (D).
2.
Securely tighten with the existing locknut (D). Torque to 20-40 ft-lbs.
