Operating the engine without an air filter, or with a damaged air filter, will
allow dirt to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear. This type of
damage is not covered by the Distributor's Limited Warranty.

8.3 SPARK PLUG SERVICE

Recommended spark plug: BP7ES (TORCH)
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be
properly gapped and free of deposits.
An incorrect spark plug can cause engine damage.
If the engine has been running, allow it to cool before servicing the
spark plug.
(1). Unscrew the screw, and then remove the Cover.
(2). Remove the Spark Plug Cap.
(3). Use a Spark Plug Wrench 4 to remove the Spark Plug 3.
(4). Inspect the Spark Plug. Replace it if the electrodes are worn or if the
insulator is cracked, chipped, or fouled.
(5). Measure the Spark Plug electrode gap with a wire-type feeler
gauge. Correct the gap, if necessary, by carefully bending the
side electrode. The gap should be:0.024-0.028 in (0.60-0.70
mm)

SEALING WASHER
(6). Check that the Spark Plug sealing washer is in good condition.
(7). After the Spark Plug is seated; tighten with a Spark Plug Wrench to
compress the washer. If installing a new Spark Plug, tighten 1/2 turn
after the spark plug seats to compress the washer. If reinstalling a used
Spark Plug, tighten 1/8-1/4 turn after the Spark Plug seats to compress
the washer.
(8). Reinstall the Spark Plug Cap on the Spark Plug securely.
A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine. Over tightening
the spark plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head.
