Protecting the COM Port from Interruption

The Multimode Communication Service polls COM ports as part of its
monitoring tasks. If the COM port where the stacker is connected gets
polled when the stacker is communicating with the software, it can
cause an error condition in the software. To prevent this error
condition, open the communication server options and disable polling
the COM port where the stacker is connected.
To disable polling of the stacker COM port
1. Click Start and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties to open the System Properties dialog box.
3. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager to open the
Device Manager list.
4. Click the + next to Ports to view the COM port connections.
5. Make a note of the COM port where the stacker is connected.
6. Click Start > My Computer and then view the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Molecular Devices\Multimode Communication
Services
7. Double-click commsrvmangr.exe to start the Communication
Server Manager.
8. Right-click the Communication Server Manager icon in the task
bar and then click Options to open the Options dialog box.
9. In the Used ports box, clear the check box next to the COM port
that you noted in
10. Click OK to close the Options dialog box and save your settings.
