1.12 Automatic detection of
passages
When the robotic lawnmower follows a guide wire it
does so at a maximum distance defined by the corridor
width setting (Installation - Advanced - Corridor width).
The distance is randomly varied from one search
to another to reduce the risk of tracks forming.
If the robotic lawnmower is about to enter a passage
where the loop signal from the boundary wire is
stronger, the robotic lawnmower will run closer to
the guide wire to make its way through the passage.
The automatic passage detection can be cancelled
in the Installation - Advanced - Auto passage handling
menu. If this function is disabled, the robotic lawnmower
will not be able to regulate the distance it follows the
guide wire, and the corridor width must as result be
modified to cope with all passages in the installation.

1.13 Docking and charging

When the mower enters the charging station, this is
called docking.
When the charging strips on the robotic lawnmower
make contact with the contact strips on the charging
station, the mower stops and charging begins.

1.14 Battery

The robotic lawnmower is equipped with a Li-Ion battery.
Compared with a NiMH, for example, Li-Ion has very
good properties, even at high ambient temperatures.
The battery also has low self-discharge, i.e. it can remain
unused for a longer period than, for example, NiMH
without being damaged. Counted in number of charging
cycles, the service life is also expected to be longer for
Li-Ion than NiMH.
Charging is primarily controlled by the power supply.
The normal charge current is 1.3 A.
The battery is considered fully charged when the battery
reaches 80% of its total capacity. To charge the battery
to 100% would take too long because the charge
current is so low. The most rational way of using Li-Ion
is therefore to stop charging at 80%. The maximum
utilised capacity is thus 80% of the battery's total capacity.
How to measure the condition of the battery is described
in 6.6 Battery test on page 94.
