8692 SF/CPU DCE/DTE switch
The DCE/DTE switch changes the pin assignments on the Console
port. Use this switch to designate the connector as either DTE or DCE.
For information about pin assignments for the Console port, see

8692 SF/CPU serial ports
The 8692 SF/CPU module provides two serial ports for attaching modem
and console devices. The Console port provides CLI terminal access to
the 8692 SF/CPU module. Use the Modem port to connect a standard
modem for out-of-band, dial-up management. For information about pin
assignments for these ports, see
8692 SF/CPU Reset button
The recessed Reset button on the module performs a hard reset or
reboot of the system. To press the Reset button, insert a small object (for
example, a paper clip) into the Reset button hole.
8692 SF/CPU PCMCIA card slot
The PCMCIA memory card provides a convenient way to store switch
configurations and boot images. Use a memory card to quickly
transfer configurations and images between switches or store multiple
configurations for a single switch.
ATTENTION
For Release 5.0 and later, Nortel recommends that you use a PCMCIA card of
not less than 256 MB storage capacity.
The part number of the 3.3 V 256 MB PCMCIA card is DS1411022.
Nortel ships each memory card with its read-write protect switch in the
unprotected position. After you successfully load the configuration file and
save your configuration, you may want to write-protect the memory card for
backup purposes. See
Typically, you do not operate an Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 Series
with a write-protected memory card. Make a copy of your configuration on
another memory card, write-protect that card, and store it in a safe place.
If you do not have a second memory card, you can copy your configuration
to a TFTP or FTP server.
