CONFIGURATION
Discussion
The system controller CPU has a battery-backed RAM memory that maintains setup information.
This information includes disk drive types, amount of installed memory, and display type.
During power on, the firmware on the CPU verifies the RAM contents and reports configuration
errors if any of the information has been lost. If a configuration or boot error is displayed, a
setup program must be run. On 286 based systems, a setup program supplied on the DOS Install
diskette must be run. On 386 and 80486 based systems, the setup program is in the BIOS ROM
on the CPU. The setup program also must be run when memory is added to the CPU or when
disk drive types are changed. Configuration information for various Series 90 systems by serial
number is provided below:
