Powering On

This section explains how to turn on the ETERNUS AF.
To turn on the ETERNUS AF, perform the following procedure.
Via the power switch
Press the Power switch to turn on the ETERNUS AF.
The following methods can be used to turn the power on by linking with the server.
Power Synchronized Unit
Use the power synchronized unit to turn on the ETERNUS AF.
Wake On LAN
Use the Wake On LAN function to turn on the power.
Before turning on the ETERNUS AF, make sure that the main line switches of the power distribution units and
the PSU switches on the power supply units of the ETERNUS AF are "ON". Do not turn the main line switches of
the power distribution units and the PSU switches on the ETERNUS AF to the OFF position.
After turning the power on, it takes approximately five minutes for the ETERNUS AF to reach the READY
state (the READY LED turns on). If an error is detected in a component during the initial power-on diagnos-
tics, it may take a maximum of 10 minutes (or a maximum of 11 minutes for a configuration in which the
Deduplication/Compression function is enabled) for the ETERNUS AF to reach the READY state. If a sched-
uled operation is being performed, make configurations by taking the operation into consideration.
Before turning the server on, check that the ETERNUS AF and the network devices that connect the ETERNUS
AF and the server are all in READY status.
If the server is turned on while any of these devices are not in READY status, the server may not be able to
recognize the ETERNUS AF.
To turn on the ETERNUS AF by linking with the server, the server must wait until the ETERNUS AF is in the
READY state.
If the Auto Power function is enabled via ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI, the ETERNUS AF is automatical-
ly turned on when power is supplied to the ETERNUS AF.
If the Power Resume function is enabled via ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI, the ETERNUS AF is automati-
cally turned on after the power is restored.
After power-off, wait for about one minute before turning power on again.
If the ETERNUS AF is not turned off normally due to problems such as a power failure, it takes approximately
five minutes (max.) longer to reach the READY state the next time the ETERNUS AF is turned on.
If the ETERNUS AF250 S2 is not connected to a power source for long periods, it takes up to four hours be-
fore the built-in battery is fully charged. If the ETERNUS AF250 S2 is used before the battery is fully charged,
the operational state of the cache is changed to the Write Through mode and performance of the ETERNUS
AF degrades.
This section explains how to use the Power switch to turn on the ETERNUS AF.
For other procedures, refer to the related manuals.
