BIOS
5.1
Overview
This chapter describes the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) setup, serial port
configuration parameters, steps to access the BIOS setup screen, and configuring the
BIOS settings.
The BIOS acts as an interface between the operating system and the hardware of the card.
Before loading the operating system, BIOS performs basic hardware tests and prepares the
card for the initial boot-up procedure.
Using BIOS setup, you can perform the following tasks:
Obtain system information
Hardware set-up utility for setting configuration data
Boot configuration for a flexible boot order
The BIOS setup program is required to configure the hardware of the card. This
configuration is necessary for operating the card and the peripherals connected to it. The
configuration data is stored as part of a boot flash, since the configuration data storage
needs to be nonvolatile.
5.2
Accessing the BIOS Setup Screen
When the system is turned on or rebooted, the presence and functionality of the system
components is tested by POST (Power-On Self Test).
The menus shown in the figures in this chapter are from a typical system. The actual
menus displayed on the screen may be different and depend on the hardware and
features installed on the system.
To access the BIOS Setup screen, press <F2> when the message to enter the BIOS setup
appears on the screen. The following figure shows a sample BIOS Setup screen.
