3.1 Introduction
This chapter of the Service Manual provides the technical information necessary to
resolve most instrument malfunctions. Important prerequisites for effective
troubleshooting are a thorough understanding of the instrument functions and
specifications, as well as an understanding of the theory of operation. (See "Theory of
Operation" on page 1-1. See "Specifications" on page 2-1.)
Functional overviews of the major circuit blocks are provided in this manual. (See
"Theory of Operation" on page 1-1.) Technically qualified individuals may prefer to
isolate problems to a sub-circuit or component level. Component level repair activity is
not always possible. Isolation of defective components is frequently impossible without
the functional emulation of operating software. The equipment and processes required are
not cost-effective on a single unit basis.
The procedures detailed in this chapter are for use by qualified technical personnel only.
