Illustration F. Electric Trim Rigging Installation (Sheet 2 of 2)
Step 4.
Ensure that support assembly (8) is se-
curely attached to the rear spar assembly (7) and
that the trim tab actuator assembly (9) is securely
attached to the support assembly (8) with a mounting
plate (6) and four washers (4) and screws (5).
Step 5.
Ensure that the chain assembly (14) is
properly aligned on the electric trim actuator's (25)
sprocket and the trim tab actuator's sprocket (11).
Check to ensure the chain is secured together with
chain connecting links (15 & 25) attaching terminals
(16 & 20). Also check that the terminals (16 & 20)
are secured to the turnbuckle (18) and that the turn-
buckle (18) is safetied with two clips (17 & 19).
Step 6.
Check that the chain (14) is secured on
the sprocket (11) track by a sprocket guard (10) and
attached with two screws (12) and nuts (13).
Step 7.
Check that the two chain guard post (24)
are properly installed and safety wired on the elec-
tric trim actuator assembly.
Step 8. With the trim tab in the neutral posi-
tion, check that the chain (14) connected to terminal
(16) measures 6. 50 inches minimum from the end of
terminal (16) to the center of the actuator assembly
(9) sprocket (11) as shown in Illustration A. Check
that the chain (14) measures 11. 36 inches maximum
from the center of sprocket (11) to the end of termi-
nal (20) as shown in installation F.
Step 9. Using your finger placed on the lower
chain (14), apply medium finger pressure (5-10 lbs)
and observe the chain has a total vertical travel
of .25 inch.
Step 10.
If the chain tension is too high or too
low, remove the two safety clips (17 & 19) from the
turnbuckle (18) and then loosen or tighten the turn-
buckle (18) until the proper .25 inch total vertical
travel is obtained using medium finger pressure (5-
10 lbs).
NOTE
If the navomatic pitch trim chain assembly
(14) is to be removed for replacement or
maintainence, it is necessary to remove
the two chain guard post (24) on the electric
trim actuator (25) and the chain guard (10)
from the mounting plate (6).
CAUTION
When the chain guard post (24) are being
unscrewed for removal, use caution to not
lose the locking washers.
Step 11. In order to properly adjust the electric
trim system, it is first necessary to assure that
you have a well regulated continuous 28. 8 volts dc
applied to the electronics side of the aircraft's bus
bar. This can be accomplished in one of the follow-
ing methods:
a.
Using the standard aircraft starting proce-
dures for one engine, run the engine at approximate-
ly 1000 RPM to maintain normal operating aircraft
voltage (28. 8 vdc).
b.
With the master switch and avionics power
switches in the OFF position, connect a well regu-
lated and filtered external power supply directly to
the battery side of the battery contactor.
Adjust the
power supply for 28. 8 volts dc and then turn ON the
master switch and avionics power switches to supply
power to the system.
CAUTION
Failure to observe proper polarity when
connecting an external power source direct-
ly to the battery side of the battery con-
tactor will result in damage to the diodes
in the alternator and other semiconductor
devices in the aircraft.
