c.
Reduce alieron .interconnect cable tension
as required (acceptable range 20 to 40 pounds) with
ailerons in neutral position.
d.
Check and adjust pulley alignment as indi-
cated.
Elevator Rigging.
To checkout the elevator rigging,
proceed as follows:
NOTE
Before proceeding with the following proce-
dures, be sure the elevator control system
has been rigged in accordance with instruc-
tions provided in the T303 airplane's Service
Manual for cable tensions, travels and friction.
Step 1.
Place control wheels in neutral position
of elevator, and secure control wheels in neutral po-
sition by using a control column neutral rigging tool.
Refer to Illustration D for fabrication and installation
of the control column neutral rigging tool.
Step 2.
Install an inclinometer on the left ele-
vator's trailing edge and adjust inclinometer to read
0° while the left elevator is in its streamlined posi-
tion.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to align the horn (balance
weight portion) on the elevator to the
stabilizer.
Step 3.
Remove the aft baggage partition to
gain access to the elevator actuator (15), chain (12)
and cable assembly (25).
CAUTION
Position a support stand under the tail skid
to prevent the tailcone from dropping while
working inside the tailcone.
Step 4.
Ensure that the pi:ch actuator
pitch actuator mount (28) are secure
olted :-
gether using four bolts (13) and washi.2 (14) ar-.
that the actuator mounting (28) is sec-rely attached
to the mounting bracket assemil7 (201 ;sing four
bolts and washers (not shown). (See I:i.straticn E)
Step 5.
Ensure that the mounting bracket Ls-
sembly (20) is securely attached to the forward fin
spar using four bolts (21), washers (22) and nuts (23).
Step 6.
Ensure that the cable assembly (25) is
properly attached to the aft portion of the bellcrank
assembly (1) attach bracket (30) with one bolt (29),
washer (28), nut (27) and cotter pin (26).
Step 7.
Ensure that the chain (12) is properly
aligned on the actuator sprocket (19) with the chain
guard posts (17) properly installed and safety wired
(18).
Also check that the chain (12) is properly se-
cured to the cable assembly (12) and turnbuckle ter-
minal (10) with chain connecting links (11 & 24).
NOTE
If the chain (12) is to be replaced, it is nec-
essary to first remove the safety wire (18)
securing the two chain guard posts (17) and
then remove the chain guard post (17).
ICAUTIONI
When the chain guard posts (17) are being
unscrewed for removal, use caution not
to lose the locking washers.
Step 8. Ensure that the fork (6) is properly at-
tached to the fwd portion of the bellcrank assembly
(1) attach bracket (3) with one bolt (2), washer (4),
nut (5) and cotter pin (7).
Step 9. Ensure that the chain (12) terminal (10)
and fork (6) are securely attached together with the
turnbuckle (9) and that the turnbuckle (9) is safetied
with safety wire (8).
Step 10. To check the chain (12) and cable as-
sembly (25) tension, place your finger on side of the
chain (12) end and apply light side pressure on the
chain (12).
The chain (12) should deflect . 25 inch.
Step 11.
If chain tension is too high or too low,
remove the safety wire (8) from the turnbuckle (9)
and then loosen or tighten the turnbuckle (9) until the
proper . 25 inch side deflection of the chain (12) is.
obtained.
Reinstall safety wire (8) on turnbuckle (9)
after adjustment is completed.
Step 12.
Recheck inclinometer on left elevator
trailing edge and ensure that inclinometer is still
reading 0° while the elevator is in its streamlined
position. Remove inclinometer if elevator is still in
the streamlined position and the inclinometer read-
ing 0o. Otherwise, recheck the elevator rigging per
Figure 7-1.
