4.3 Testing of Altitude Reporting - Altimeter in System
To insure the altitude reporting altimeter is encoding properly with
the transponder a short check can be conducted as follows.
a.
Adjust the barometric pressure setting on the altimeter to 29.92
inches of mercury.
NOTE:
The coded altimeter output to the transponder will agree with
the altimeter only when the altimeter is set for 29.92 inches
Hg.
b.
Set the ATC-600 test set mode switch to "A/C Altitude".
c.
Set the transponder select switch to "Standby" position and after
warm up period set select switch to "ALT" position.
d.
Observe the numerical display on the ATC-600 test set and the
altitude on the altimeter.
The altitude displayed on the ATC-600
and the altimeter must agree within ± 120 ft.
