Voltage and Current Signals

Be sure to read and understand the important safety information at the beginning of the
manual before proceeding.

Configure Voltage

1. Connect to the channel voltage inputs, shown below.
2. Press [1] or [2] (or [3] or [4] on the PA2203A) to open the channel menu. Then press
Ranging > Ranging Mode and choose Fixed or Automatic ranging. Automatic ranging is
generally recommended, because it chooses an appropriate measurement range based on
the input signal level. Downranging is limited by the present display scale; for optimal range
and display scale, press the [Auto Scale] key.
3. If you are using Fixed ranging, press Voltage Range and choose a measurement range.
4. The Voltage HV softkey will become available when the channel is AC coupled and
measuring on a low, fixed range. If most of your signal is near the top of the range, you can
enable this configuration to improve measurement resolution.
The instrument achieves the HV configuration by inserting an amplifier into the signal path
and spreading the information content over more bits of the analog-to-digital converter. In
the example below, enabling HV reveals the noise on the sine wave.
