Remote Computer Operation
This section provides an overview on how to connect the 61000 for external

communications to a remote computer using the Encore Series Software.
For more information about operating the 61000 from a computer, refer to the Encore

Series Software User's Guide.
The computer used must be equipped with the same communication interface as the

61000. For example, if the instrument is using Ethernet, the computer must likewise be
using Ethernet.
There are five types of connectors in the rear panel of the 61000 for remote

interface
comunication to a computer:
• RJ-45 for 10BaseT connection via Ethernet cable to a network or computer. The RJ-
45 connector can also be used for external modem connections.
• RS-485 for 10BaseT connection using crossover wiring and cable
• USB communication port (future use)
• COM 1, 9-pin RS232 communication port
• GPS antenna cable connector (optional)
Refer to Chapter 2 Controls, Indicators and Connectors for diagrams of the connectors
found on the rear panel of the 61000.
Only qualified personnel should attempt installation and connection of the 61000 to a
