PARK BRAKE
WARNING
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
Inspection
The park brake is actuated through a pin in the center of the rear
left and right brake body on the rear axles.
1: Place blocks on both sides of one wheel to prevent vehicle
movement.
2: Release the park brake.
3: Inspect the rear brake pads and rotors. Refer to Inspect
the Rear Brake section for inspection details.
4: Remove the park brake lever from the brake assembly.
5: Inspect the park brake pin and bushing for any signs of damage or
corrosion. The pin should slide through the bushing with no binding.
6: Inspect all cables and linkages for any signs of damage, wear, binding, or
missing cotter pins.
7: Inspect the brake handle locking ratchet for any signs of damage.
8: Remove blocks from behind the wheels and test drive.
Adjustment
1: Place blocks on both sides of one wheel to prevent vehicle movement.
2: Release the park brake.
3: Loosen the jam nuts on the park brake linkage.
4: Adjust the linkage to remove all slack for the park brake
cables.
5: Tighten the jam nuts on the park brake linkage.
6: Test drive the vehicle.
