ENABLE AND CONFIGURE GATE 1
In order to measure, a gate is required.
The width of the gate should be small
enough, in terms of its width, in order to
select specific reflections to measure.
The purpose of the gate is to allow the
gauge to detect on a particular signal. To
calibrate the gauge the user must
ensure that the horizontal gate line and
the signal peak of interest cross. You
can use the GATES1 item in the hot
menu with the navigation keys to move
the gate over signal of interest. Enable
the DETECT MARK to check the gauge
is detecting on the correct peak. On
z-crossing and flank detection modes
(section 11.2), the first peak the gate
crosses will be used.
The screenshots show gates enabled to select the 1" calibration standard, and the 4" calibration
standard.
To enable and configure Gate 1, follow the instructions given in "Gates" on page 35 and use the
following suggested settings:
ALARM:
ON
DETECT:
ABOVE
GATE#:
A value less than 1"
GATE# WIDTH:
A value greater than 1"
THRESHOLD#:
20%
POLARITY:
POSITIVE
Note: The settings given above are for this particular example calibration. You should always use
settings which meet the requirements of your applications.
CALIBRATING TO THE FIRST POINT (ON THE THIN CALIBRATION STANDARD)
1. Apply a drop of couplant on the transducer and place the transducer in steady contact with the
1" thin calibration standard. Be sure that the reading is stable and the repeatability indicator, in
the top left corner of the display, is fully lit and stable. Also, be sure there is sufficient signal
amplitude in order to avoid peak jumping or missing the first cycle.
2. Press MEAS to view the measurement screen.
3. In the hot menu, scroll to GATE1.
4. Use LEFT and RIGHT to move the gate over the peak of the
waveform to be measured, as shown in the screenshot.
Note: In order to trigger on a signal, the waveform must be inside
the boundaries of the gate.
5. Select MENU/CAL/ MATL 1PT.
6. Press ENTER to display the Digits Edit Box.
7. Use LEFT and RIGHT to scroll the value, or press ENTER to
open the digits edit box and adjust the value using the navigation
buttons.
