Status Monitor Configuration Procedure

Introduction

The SM needs to know the node's hardware configuration (number of receivers,
transmitters, EDFAs, optical switches, power supplies, and AC lines mounted or
connected) so that it can monitor and control the node's behavior correctly. This
configuration data is stored in an EEPROM residing on the SM main board.
The SM includes an HMS compliant transponder module that plugs into the LCM
main board. Once powered up in a network, the transponder will go through an
auto-registering process. Once the SM/LCM has gone through the discovery
process, the transponder will work without manual configuration. The transponder
can be manually configured using the PC-based ViewPort software.
Notes:
You must still use the Auto-Setup button to start the discovery process once the
hub/node is configured.
You may have to manually configure parameters for the transponder using
ViewPort.
You can use remote configuration capabilities to configure the LCM and the
hub/node if your headend is properly equipped.
