Chapter 4 Management Via SNMP

SCTE-HMS-HE-COMMON-MIB

The heOpticalAmplifier and heOpticalSwitch MIBs require that entries are made in
the heCommonTable. This table is found in the heCommon MIB. Because we are
only using the headend MIBs to support the Optical Switch and EDFA modules, our
implementation uses the heCommonTable to monitor module temperatures.
Our modules do not support software resets. Thus, a write to the
heCommonSoftwareReset does nothing. Similarly, there is no Real Time Clock on
the transponder core module. Setting the heCommonTime results in no action.
SysUpTime at the time that the temperature was initially polled or at the time of a
temperature change by more than 0.5 degrees Celsius displays as a value in this
OID.
To enable detection of a module's temperature and an entry in the properties MIB,
select heCommonAlarmDetectionControl and enter
detectionEnabledAndRegenerate(3). The particular module's temperature
parameters will be entered into the analog properties MIB. To disable the feature
described, enter detectionDisabled(1).

SCTE-HMS-HE-OPTICAL-AMPLIFIER-MIB

The HMS optical amplifier MIB allows the user to monitor and control the GS7000
EDFA. Four tables are provided through this MIB:

heOPAmpOutputTable
heOpAmpUnitTable
The value of heOpAmpUnitOutputStatus shows the state of the EDFA with respect
to whether the laser output is off(1) or on(2). The control for turning the EDFA
output off or on is heOpAmpUnitOnOffControl.

The input power level for the EDFA displays in the table heOpAmpInputTable
under heOpAmpInputPower in units of 0.1 dBm. The instance for the table
represents the slot number in which the EDFA is installed and the index. The index
is always 1 because there is only one laser input to the GS7000 EDFA.
