Problems with airbag deactivation
Problem
The PASSENGER AIR-
BAG OFF 4 indica-
tor lamp is on.
The PASSENGER AIR-
BAG ON × indica-
tor lamp is lit and
goes off after
60 seconds.
The PASSENGER AIR-
BAG ON × indica-
tor lamp does not light
up if the passenger
airbag was activated
manually.

WARNING
The risk of an accident increases in par-
ticular when you drive too fast, especially
when cornering or on wet and slippery roads
as well as when you drive too close to the
vehicle in front. The driving safety sys-
tems described in this section cannot
reduce this risk nor override the laws of
physics. You should therefore always adapt
your driving style to suit the prevailing
road and weather conditions and maintain a
sufficient distance from other road users
and objects on the road.

Anti-lock braking system (abs)
The anti-lock braking system (abs) pre-
vents locking of the braked wheel. This
allows you to continue steering the vehicle
enabling you to avoid obstacles.

If abs intervenes when braking, you
will feel a pulsing in the brake pedal.
abs intervenes regardless of road-sur-
face conditions if there is a danger of
least one wheel locking. abs works on
slippery surfaces, even when you only
brake gently.
In emergency braking situations:

depress the brake pedal quickly and
with maximum force.

steer around the obstacle.
The vehicle remains steerable.
