G
WARNING
Modifications to or work performed incor-
rectly on restraint systems (seat belts,
anchorages, belt tensioners, belt force
limiters or airbags) or their wiring, as
well as work on other networked electronic
systems, may prevent the restraint systems
from working correctly. Airbags and belt
tensioners could fail, e.g. in the event of an
accident, the deceleration force of which
would normally be sufficient to trigger the
systems, or could be triggered uninten-
tionally. Never carry out any modifications
on the restraint systems. Never tamper with
electronic components and their software.
G
WARNING
The seat belt cannot function correctly if
the belt or buckle is dirty or damaged. Keep
the belt and buckle clean, otherwise the
belt tongue cannot engage correctly.
Regularly check the seat belts to make sure
that they are not:
damaged
R
routed over sharp edges
R
trapped
R
Otherwise the belt could tear in the event of
an accident. You or others could be seri-
ously or even fatally injured.
Have seat belts which have been damaged or
subjected to heavy loads in an accident
replaced and have their anchorages
checked. Consult a qualified specialist
workshop which has the necessary special-
ist knowledge and tools to carry out the
work required. smart recommends that you
use a smart Centre for this purpose.
For safety reasons, smart recommends that
you only use seat belts which have been
specially approved for your vehicle by
smart or which are equally as safe. Further
information can be obtained at a qualified
specialist workshop, e.g. a smart Centre.
G
DANGER
If the restraint system is malfunctioning,
restraint system components may be trig-
gered unintentionally or might not be trig-
gered at all in the event of an accident with
a high rate of vehicle deceleration. This
can effect belt tensioners or airbags, for
example. In addition, the vehicle's high-
voltage electrical system may not be deac-
tivated as intended in the event of an acci-
dent. Touching damaged components of the
vehicle's high-voltage electrical system
could result in an electric shock. There is
an increased risk of injury, possibly even
fatal.
Have the restraint system checked and
repaired immediately at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop. After an accident, imme-
diately switch the ignition off and remove
the key from the ignition lock.
A malfunction has occurred if:
airbag indicator lamp 6 does not go
R
light up after you switch on the ignition
airbag indicator lamp 6 does not go
R
out a few seconds after starting the drive
system
the drive system is running and airbag
R
indicator lamp 6 lights up again
Belt warning
The 7 seat belt warning lamp in the
instrument cluster is a reminder that all
vehicle occupants must wear their seat
belts. It may light up continuously or flash.
In addition, a warning tone may sound. The
7 seat belt warning lamp goes out and
the warning tone ceases when the driver and
the front passenger have fastened their
seat belt.
