G
WARNING
The wheels could work loose if the wheel
bolts are not tightened to a torque of 110 Nm.
For reasons of safety, smart recommends
that only the correct wheel bolts approved
by smart or equivalent wheel bolts are fit-
ted. Further information can be obtained at
any qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
smart Centre.

Winter operation

Winter tyres
At the beginning of winter, have your vehi-
cle winterproofed at a specialist workshop
that is qualified for smart electric drive
vehicles, e.g. a smart Centre.
Use winter tyres at temperatures below
+7 ¥ and on snow or ice-covered roads.
Only winter tyres bearing the i snow-
flake symbol next to the M+S marking pro-
vide the best-possible grip in wintry road
conditions. Only these tyres will allow the
®
abs and esp
driving systems to function
optimally in winter, as these tyres have
been designed specifically for driving on
snow.
Use winter tyres of the same make and tread
on all wheels to maintain safe handling
characteristics.
G
WARNING
You must replace winter tyres with a tread
depth of less than 4 mm immediately. They
are no longer suitable for winter use and
can no longer provide sufficient grip. This
could cause you to lose control of your vehi-
cle and cause an accident.
Always observe the maximum permissible
speed specified for the winter tyres you
have fitted. If you fit winter tyres which
have a lower maximum permitted speed than
that of the vehicle, affix an appropriate
warning sign showing the maximum per-
mitted speed in the driver's field of
* optional
vision. You can obtain such a sign at a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a smart
Centre.
Winter driving
Drive particularly carefully on slippery
roads in winter.
Avoid sudden acceleration, steering and
braking manoeuvres.

Driving tips

Energy-saving riding style
Drive carefully and maintain a suitable
R
distance from the vehicle in front.
Avoid frequent and sudden acceleration
R
as well as abrupt braking.
Correct tyre pressures save energy,
R
increase the service life of the tyres and
improve braking safety. Tyre pressure
specifications for different load and
climate conditions can be found on the
inside of the charge socket flap.
Any basic carrier bars*, bicycle racks*
R
and ski/snowboard racks* fitted
increase air resistance and therefore
the vehicle's energy consumption.
Remove these when they are not required.
Any unnecessary load in the luggage com-
R
partment also increases energy con-
sumption. Remove any unnecessary load
from the luggage compartment.
Have the vehicle checked regularly at a
R
qualified specialist workshop. Do not
exceed the maintenance interval.
