Remote Close Solenoid

Th is accessory is an e lectrically operated solenoid which,
when energized, closes the breaker. It is suitable for control
i nterlock schemes in which manual closi ng capabi l ity would
not be conven ient or would be too slow. It is a n optional ac
cessory for a m a n u a l l y operated b rea ker, but is required for
an electrically operated breaker. The remote close accessory
is continuously rated and has an anti-pu m p feature which
prevents a motor operated breaker from repeatedly closing
into a fau l t . Closing control voltage must be removed and
re-a pplied for each breaker closure.
This accessory consists of an integ ral e lectronic control mod
ule and the closing solenoid. When control voltage is applied
to the accessory, the electronic control module a p plies a
single pulse of cu rrent to the solenoid for a pproximately 0.25
seconds to d rive the solenoid before shutting the cu rrent off
to a level of approximately lOmA. Voltage m ust be removed
and re-applied to reclose the breaker, thereby providing the
anti-pump feature.
This pulse approach a llows the accessory to be continuously
rated. Control voltage m u st be removed for 2.5 seconds and
then rea pplied each time the solenoid is to be energized.
Removal of the voltag e for significantly less than 2.5 sec
onds will not reset the e lectronic control module and prevent
the solenoid from being energ ized. Applied control voltag e
(closed circuit voltag e at breaker terminals 34 and 1 6) must
be 85% to 110% of nominal. The solenoid will not energ ize if
voltage is ramped u p to the accepta ble range. Th ree-cycle
closing time, at nominal voltage, is standard and fulfi lls the
requirements of generator synchronizing.
