B reaker Protective System (M icroVersaTrip Plus™ and
MicroVersaTri p PM™)
1.
Each circuit b reaker shall be equipped with a p rotec
tive trip unit system to p rotect against overloads, short
ci rcuits (and g round faults) as specified in the fol lowing
su b pa ra gra phs. The protective tri p unit shall consist of a
sol id-state, m icroprocessor-based, programmer: tripping
means; current sensors; power supply and other devices
a s required for proper operation.
2.
As a minimum, the trip unit shall have the following fea
tures and functions:
a) The housing shall be a meta llic enclosure to protect
against magnetic interference, dust and other con
tam inants.
b) The p rotective system shall have reliable program
mable controls with repetitive accu racy and p recise
unit settings.
c) All current sensing shall employ true rms tech nology
for detecting overloads, (short-ti me overcurrent con
ditions), h i gh -level i nstantan eous overcurrent condi
tions, (and g round-fa ult cond itions).
d) A h i g h-contrast, liquid crystal d isplay - LCD - unit
shall display setti ngs, trip targets, and specified
metering displays. Th e trip u nit shall be equipped with
long-life l ithium batteries - with automatic time delay
sh ut-off features - to p rovide both p rogra m m ing and
observation of trip targets or other functions when
the breaker is d e-energized.
e) A multi-button keypad to p rovide local set-up a nd
readout on the LCD of all trip setti ngs.
f) UL Listed, CSA Certified, I EC 947-2 Certified, field-in
sta llable, interchangeable rating plugs. It shall not
be necessary to change or remove the trip unit to
change the trip rating. Rating plugs shall contain
rejection features to prevent insta llation of a plug with
an incorrect current sensor rating.
g) I nteg ral test jack for connection of a battery pack or
test kit to the breaker.
h) (When specified) the g round-fault function shall
contai n a memory circuit to integ rate low-level a rcing
fault cu rrents with time to sum interm ittent g round
fa ult cu rrent spikes.
i) A mechanism with provisions for sealing the rating
plug, the trip unit, a nd the " ENTER" key on the protec
tive trip unit to make the insta llation tamper-resista nt.
j) The unit shall be dual-rated for both 50Hz and 60Hz
operation. N oise immunity shall meet the req u i re
ments of ANSI Standard C3 7.90.2
k) The trip unit shall h ave an integral, resettable tri p
counter to record the number of long-time, short
time, instantaneous and g round-fault trips.
I) Th e tri p unit shall display tri p targets for long-time,
short-ti me, instantaneous and ground-fault tri ps.

3.
The trip units for the main and tie breakers shall include
the fol lowi ng p rotective functions:
a) Adjusta ble long-time cu rrent settings.
b) Adj ustable long-time delay with fou r time delay
bands.
c) Long-time pickup warning indicator.
d) Trip targets for long-time. instanta neous (and short
time, when specified). and g round fault (when speci
fied).
e) S ELECT O N E O F TH E FOLLOWI N G
1) Adjustable instanta neous p ickup.
2) Adjusta ble short-time pickup and delay, with three
delay bands, and switcha ble 12t ramp and
adjustable insta ntaneous picku p.
3) Fixed h i g h-range instantaneous p ickup.
f) OPTIONAL: Adj ustable g round-fault p ickup and time
delay, with three delay bands and switchable l2t
ramp.
g) OPTIONAL: Zone-selective i nterlocking [SELECT O N E)
(for g round-fault conditions) (for both g round-fa ult
and short-ti me conditions).
4.
The trip un its for feeder breakers shall include the follow
ing protective functions:
a. Adjusta ble long-time cu rrent settin gs
b) Adjustable long-time delay with four time delay
ba nds.
c) Long-time pickup warning indicator.
d) Tip targets for long-time, instantaneous (and short
time, when specified). and g round fau lt (when speci
fied).
e) S ELECT O N E O F THE FOLLOW I N G
1 1 Adjustable instantaneous pickup.
2) Adjustable short-time picku p and delay, with three
delay bands, and switchable 1 2t ram p and
adjustable insta ntaneous pickup.
3) Fixed h ig h-range instanta neous p icku p.
f.) OPTI ONAL: Adjusta ble g round-fa ult pickup and time
delay, with three delay bands and switchable I Zt
ramp.
g.) OPTIONAL: Zone-selective interlocki ng [S ELECT O N E)
(for g round-fault conditions) (for both g round-fault
and short-ti me cond itions).
