Sh u nt Tri p
The s hu nt trip accessory is an electronic module which p ro
vides remote control capability to open the circuit b reaker.
Breaker opening time is 50 mill iseconds. When activated, the
shunt trip module sends a signal to the trip unit to open the
b reaker. This a llows the trip u n it to record, display, d istin
guish and com m u nicate (in M icroVersaTripPM™ trip u nits)
that the opening event was initiated by the shunt tri p d evice.
The s hunt trip is continuously rated and req uires no cut-off
switch. Wh en energized, the s hunt trip supplies +24 Vdc
power to the trip unit to power the display.
Shunt trip modules a re available in a wide range of voltages
(from 24 to 250 Vdc, and 24 to 240 Vacl. They meet
quirements for operation at 5 5 % of rated ac or 7 5 % of rated
de voltage, making this device suitable for use with Class 1
g round-fault protective devices. Shunt trip modules a re a lso
available for 480 Vac and 600 Vac control power. A 50 VA
control power transformer, which mounts externally from
the b reaker, is req uired and supplied with these accessories.
These transformers provide an output of 120 Vac, 50/60
Hz, to the supplied shunt trip ( with or without lockout). (See
outl ine d rawing in the Physical Data section.)

erator and the remote close solenoid. If momentary contact
switches a re used, the minimum duration of contact closure
must be 83 mill iseconds.
