Troubleshooting

Problem
No red LED or nothing
happens during a
capture attempt.
Imager cannot read the
bar code.
Laser activates, followed
by a beep sequence.
Imager does not
function.
NOTE If after performing these checks the symbol still does not decode, contact the distributor or contact
Motorola Enterprise Mobility Support. See
Possible Cause
No power to the imager.
Interface/power cables are
loose.
Imager is not programmed for
the correct bar code type.
Incorrect communication
parameters.
Bar code symbol is
unreadable.
Inappropriately hot
environment.
Beeper is configured.
Accidentally scanned Level or
Host from
Trigger Mode on
page

Possible Solutions
Check the system power.
Confirm that the correct host interface
cable is used.
Connect the power supply.
Re-connect loose cables.
Re-connect loose cables.
Program the imager to read the type of
bar code to be decoded.
Try capturing other bar code(s) and other
bar code types.
Set the correct communication
parameters (baud rate, parity, stop bits,
etc.)
Check the symbol to ensure it is not
defaced. Try capturing similar symbols of
the same code type.
Remove the imager from the hot
environment, and allow it to cool down.

Connect an interface cable which has an
external trigger jack, a push button trigger
cable, and a power supply to the imager.
You can purchase these cables from
Motorola, or make a similar one using the
imager's pinouts as a reference. See
Chapter 4, Symbol MS4404/MS4407
Specifications
for pinouts.
Using a momentary switch, short the
imager's trigger line to ground to activate
the laser, then scan the Presentation
Mode option of the Trigger Mode
parameter.
