Physical Location and Placement Guidelines

When determining the location of the SVI II ESD adhere to the following guidelines:
Allow sufficient room for cabling and pneumatic connections and for manual proof
testing.
Keep pneumatic piping to the actuator as short and straight as possible to minimize
the airflow restrictions and potential clogging of the line. Long or kinked pneumatic
tubes can also increase the valve closure time.
Keep the Breather/Vent port accessible and for inspection for obstruction during
manual proof testing.
Mount the SVI II ESD in a mild vibration environment. If excessive vibration can be
expected, take special precautions to ensure the integrity of electrical and pneumatic
connectors or reduce the vibration using appropriate damping mounts.
Necessary Precautions
To avoid injury or affecting the process when installing or replacing a PST controller on a
control valve, ensure that:
1. If the valve is located in a hazardous area make sure the area has been certified as safe or
that all electrical power to the area has been disconnected before removing any covers or
disconnecting any leads.
2. Shut off air supply to the actuator and to any valve mounted equipment.
3. Ensure the valve is isolated from the process by either shutting off the process or using
bypass valves for isolation. Tag shutoff or bypass valves to guard against a turn-on while
work is in progress.
4. Bleed air from actuator and check that valve is in its de-energized position.
It is now safe to disconnect and remove any valve mounted equipment that is being replaced.
