GENERAL DIRECTIONS
The rules applying to tree felling with an axe or a hand saw
also apply to cutting by chain saw. However, faster working
rates and high chain speed make it vital to respect additional
safety rules.
Comply with the safety standards issued by professional
associations, do not use differently than prescribed.
Never work isolated; stay within earshot to summon help in
case of emergency.
When not used, the chain saw should be stored in such a
way that it is not likely to cause any danger or be used by
unauthorized persons.
WORK CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES
- use protection helmets with visors;
- use safety gloves;
- wear tight-fitting clothes with anti-cutting protection;
- use safety shoes with anti-skid soles and steel-reinforced toes;
- use ear protection.
The above-mentioned items should be in compliance with
the accident-prevention standards in force in your country.
WARNING: Do not wear garments or accessories
which might get caught in plants or brushwood.
CHAIN SAW TRANSPORT fig.4
Do not transport the chain saw while the engine is running.
The chain saw should always be transported after removing
the chain or suitably protecting the chain with the special
blade cover, and by holding the machine turned backwards
In the event of transport on vehicles, make sure that the
chain saw is not likely to be overturned which would cause
fuel spills.
START-UP
Before starting the chain saw make sure that jobsite safety
conditions are complied with.
Check: good assembly of the guide bar and the tension of
the chain.
good operation of:
- the brake;
- the stop switch;
- the throttle trigger. Make sure that the handles are clean
and dry.
Do not leave any fuel drums or the chain saw wherever there
may be a risk of fires.
Bear in mind that sealed empty fuel drums will contain
explosive fumes.
Do not start a hanging chain saw (fig. 6).
WARNING
After releasing the accelerator trigger, the chain will con-
tinue to turn for a short while (free wheel effect).
22
Do not start the chain saw without its safety guards.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
During work take the chain saw with both hands and hold it
tight so that no body parts are likely to make contact to the
cutting chain or the silencer (fig. 7).
Your working position must always be safe and steady.
Firmly place the hook (A fig. 7) in the trunk before cutting.Only
withdraw the chain saw from the cut while the chain is running;
anyone working without a hook might be pulled in!
Do not work the chain saw when the acceleration trigger is in
its semiacceleration position as this will not allow correct
adjustment.
Work calmly and thoughtfully under satisfactory visibility and
lighting conditions.
Do not cut near electric cables or water piping, inform the
relevant public utility companies before-hand.
4
If tensioned branches or trunks are cut, be careful not to be
caught unawares by the sudden release of their tension.
Only use the chain saw to cut wood and prevent the chain
from hitting foreign objects (stones, glass, metal parts etc.)
which might be projected and damage the chain or cause
chain saw kick-back.
It is forbidden to work on ladders, branches or from other
unsteady situations.
