checked

miles

thereafter.

WHEEL BEARINGS

wheel bearing
lubricant which meets General Motors Speci-
fication
#
GM 6031 M.
Front
Due to
the weight
of
the
tire
and
wheel
assem-
bly it is
recommended
that
they
be removed from
hub before
lubricating
bearings
to
prevent
dam-
age to oil
seal. Then remove the front wheel
hub
to
lubricate the bearings. The
bearings
should be
t horoughly
cleaned before repacking
with lubricant.
Front
wheels are equipped with tapered
roller
bearings on
all
trucks. Wheel bearings
should
be
lubricated every
30,000 miles. Do not
mix
wheel
bearing
lubricants.
CAUTION:
"Long
fibre
"
type
greases should
not
be used on
roller
bearing
front wheels.

When
replacement is necessary,
specify
United
Delco parts.
Rear
The
rear wheel
bearings
receive their lubrica-
tion
from
the
rear
axle. When
installing bearings
which
have been cleaned, prelube with wheel
bearing grease.
CLUTCH
The clutch pedal free
travel
should
be
checked
at regular
intervals.
Lubricate
the
clutch cross-shaft
at fitting
ever
y
6,000
miles
with
water
resistant
E.P.
chassis
grease
which meets
General Motors Specification
#GM-6031M.
STEERING
MANUAL
Check the
steering gear
to frame
bolts
regu-
larly to be certain they
are
tight. Keep
the
pit-
man arm
to pitman shaft nut tight.
K
eep
the
housing
side
and
end
covers
tight to prevent
lubricant
loss and
prevent
steering from
loosen-
ing.
Seasonal change of this
lubricant is unneces-
sary
and the housing
should
not
be drained.
Every 36,000
miles-check
steering gear lubri-
cant level.
