Overdrive-The optional Overdrive transmission
(available with fully synchronized 3-speed trans-
mission only) provides an automatic 4th, or cruis-
ing gear. With the Overdrive control handle pulled
"out," the unit operates as a3-speed transmission.
Push the handle fully "in" at any time to engage
the Overdrive. The unit then will operate as fol-
lows: At speeds of 30 mph and over, the trans-
mission may be automatically shifted into 4th
gear by momentarily releasing the accelerator
pedal. Shift back into 3rd gear for fast accelera:-
tion by momentarily flooring the accelerator
pedal. Below 26 mph the unit
will
automatically
return to standard drive. To lock Overdrive out
while moving, floor the accelerator pedal momen-
tarily and, at the same time pull out the Over-
drive handle. For push starts, the handle should
be fully "out."
CAUTION: With overdrive unit engaged, the
transmission should not be left in any for-
ward gear with intent of locking the drive-
line as the overrunning clutch is on a free-
wheeling condition.
