CAUTION:
When
the
engine is
at no
rmal
operating
temperature
or above,
the internal
pressure built
up in the
cooling system will
blow
oUf
scalding
fluid
and vapors
if the
radiator cap is suddenly
removed.
To
prevent
loss
of
coolant
and to avoid
the
danger of
being burned,
the
coolant level
should
be
checked or
coolant
added only
when the
engine is cool. If
the
cap
must be removed
when the
engine is
hot, place a cloth over
the cap and rotate
the
cap slowly
counter-
clockwise to first stop and allow pressure
to
escape
completely.
Then turn cap
again
slowly counterclockwise
to
remove.
NOTE: Do
nOf
remove
the radiator
cap
when
engine
is excessively hot, do
nOf
put water in
an -overheated engine, and do
nOf
run
engine
when indicator
is
above
"'HI!
or
red indicator
light
comes on
.

TRANSMISSIONS
Powerglide Transmission
EVERY 6000 MILES-Check fluid level
on
dip-
stick.
For
an accurate oil
level
check, drive the
vehicle
several
miles making frequent stops and
starts
to bring
the transmission
up
to
normal
oper-
ating
temperature (approximately 1Boo-190 °F.).
When
checking
the
oil,
park the
vehicle on a level
surface, place
the
selector lever in "Park" and
with the
e ngine
running, note
reading.
Add oil only
• 50
with the
transmission hot
and the oil
level at
the
ADD mark.
The
amount of oil required
under
these conditions
is
one pint. DO NOT OVERFILL.

formulated

tested
for
use in
your automatic
transmission
is
recommended.
Other
Automatic
Transmission
Fluids

transmission
sump and add

quarts

Imperial measure)
offresh
fluid.
Operate transmission
through
all
ranges
and
check
fluid
level
as
de-
scribed above.
It
is not
necessary to remove the pan because a
drain
plug
is
provided.

20-30
Series
Models drain period should be every
12,000
miles.
