key removed, allowing the vehicle to be locked
while help is sought.
CAUTION: If the brake pedal is depressed
when the Hazard Warning Flasher is in op-
eration, the lights will not flash but will glow
continuously instead.
WINDsmELD WIPERS AND WASHERS
The windshield wiping system operates at 2 speeds
and is designed to wipe clear designated areas of
the windshield under most inclement weather con-
ditions. The windshield wipers work electrically
and are not affected by engine operation.
Start wiper by turning knob clockwise. Full
counterclockwise position turns wiper off. The
two-speed wiper knob has three positions-OFF,
SLOW and FAST.
CAUTION: In icy weather, never attempt to
operate electric wipers if blades are frozen to
the windshield. Free the blades before opera-
tion of wipers.
To operate the windshield washers, press the
wiper control knob. Pressing this knob will send
a jet of washer solvent or water onto the wind-
shield and, at the same time, turn the wiper motor
on. The wipers will then continue to operate until
the control knob is manually turned off.
CAUTION: Be sure to have the fluid level in the
washer reservoir checked regularly, with spe-
cial attention to keeping the reservoir fllled
during periods of heavy use. GM Optikleen
should be used as directed to prevent freez-
ing damage and for better cleaning of the
windshield under all conditions. Do not use
radiator anti-freeze as this will cause paint
damage.
Cold Weather Use
Before attempting to use washers during freez-
ing weather, it
is
best to first prewarm the wind-
shield with the heater defrosters.
Fill the washer jar % full during the winter to
allow for expansion in case the temperature
should fall low enough to freeze the solution.
