Tire wear will also
contribute
to such
trouble
as
poor handling and
shhnmy.
No definite tire rotation formula is
applicable
to all trucks because of the wide range of usage.
However, certain fundamentals, mixed with
expe-
rience and observation, will assist the trucker in
reducing
tire
costs.
A rotation sequence that moves the
front
tires
to the rear
is
a
general recommendation. Due to
different loading conditions
on
the wheels, new
tires which are broken in on the front
wheels
usu-
ally produce the greatest overall tire life.
The
outer
tire
on a
dual
wheel
will
skid
or
drag on a turn because of the difference in the
turning
radii
of the inner and
Quter
tires. This
results in faster wear of the
Oll
ter tire. In
general,
the tire with the largest diameter or least wear
should be at the outside of each dual wheel. In
addition,
certain truckers have found when trucks
are
operated continuously on high crown roads
an increase in air pressure of from 5 to 10
pounds
in
the outside tire of
each
dual produces maxi-
mum tire life.
Tire Wear Indicators
(Passenger Car Type Tires
Only)
The
original
equipment
tires on your vehicle
in-
corporate built-in tread wear indicators to assist

you in
determining
when your tires have been
worn to the
point
of
needing
replacement.
These
indicators are
molded into
the bottom of the tread
grooves and
will
appear as 'h-inch
wide
bands
when the
tire
tread
depth becomes
'li6
of
an inch.
When the
indicators appear in two or more
adja-:
cent
grooves,
tire replacement
due to tread wear
is recommended.
INFLATION PRESSURE
To ensure the proper tire inflation
pressures for
your
particular
requirements, follow
the
recom-
mendations in the tire inflation pressure tables.
Keep tires
properly
inflated, and check inflation
pressure
at
least monthly. This
should
provide
you with
the
best tire life
and
riding
comfort,
over
the
full range of
normal
driving conditions.
