• ENGINE FLOODED - Depress accelerator
pedal and hold to floor while starting until
engine is cleared of excess fuel and is running
smoothly. Never
"pump"
the accelerator pedal.
• FLOODING-A hot engine is easily flooded
and may start hard. If the carburetor is
flooded, proceed as follows:
a.Turn on ignition.
b. Depress pedal to floor and hold while crank-
ing engine.
c. DO NOT pull choke knob out.
d. Start engine;
e. When engine starts, release key and accel-
erator pedal.
NOTE OIL GAUGE (OR INDICATOR) AND
AMMETER (OR GENERATOR INDICATOR)
READINGS. Ammeter should show charge or
light should be off unless engine is idling slowly.
The charging rate shown on an ammeter with a
fully charged battery may be so slight that the
needle may appear to remain centered on the
gauge and not move away from the gauge center
mark.
The oil gauge should show some pressure
or indicator light should go out. On vehicles
equipped with oil pressure light be certain light
is off before continuing; if still on, stop engine

and determine fault. On

warmed up. Avoid excessive use of the choke.
CHECK TEMPERATURE GAUGE. If the needle
moves to the "R" hot end of the gauge or red
light comes on, stop the engine until the cause
of overheating is determined.
Driving Cautions-Automatic Transmission
• Do not accelerate engine for over 10 seconds
while holding vehicle with brakes.
• Never move selector lever to "R" when vehi-
cle is moving forward, except when "rocking"
in mud, snow, sand,etc.
• When stopped on an upgrade, do not hold
truck with engine. Use service brake.
• Do not move selector lever from "D" to
"L,"
or "Lb"
at speeds over 40 mph.
• Engage "P" only when vehicle is completely
stopped.
